Our Corner Tegut: What’s happening to the stores now
More markets than expected are under review – the story behind the major shake-up

Your Supermarket Check: Is Your Tegut Staying?
Let’s be honest, how often have you thought: “I hope my favourite store stays exactly where it is”? If you live near a Tegut supermarket, that question might be particularly relevant right now. Because the food retailer is apparently planning an even bigger shake-up than previously known.
More Stores on the Line
Initially, there was talk of about 35 locations, mostly in Southern Germany. Now, the situation is different: Tegut is reportedly reviewing the sale of around 50 additional stores. That’s a significant increase! And it doesn't just affect the outskirts; markets in the chain's core region, such as the popular Rhein-Main area, could also be affected. A real blow for many regular customers, right?
Why All This is Necessary
Of course, this news is surprising at first. But these measures are part of an ongoing restructuring process by the parent company Migros Zürich. The Migros Group is struggling with economic difficulties and recorded a substantial loss last year. That's why reviewing the store network is a necessary step to secure Tegut’s future long-term stability. Stores were already closed or handed over to other retailers in 2024 – now, the next, larger wave seems to be following.
What Does This Mean for You?
At the moment, much remains unclear. Tegut has not yet commented specifically on the affected markets or future owners. But it highlights that changes are the order of the day even in the food retail sector. We’ll keep an eye out and let you know as soon as there is concrete information. Until then: support your local Tegut store while you can!
